2011 Audi S5 – Power Folding External (side / door) Mirrors?

Question by Deweyboy: 2011 Audi S5 – Power Folding External (side / door) Mirrors?
1. I’m ordering this car soon, I don’t have it yet.
2. Folding side mirrors are manually folding now, but they used to be power folding (flip a switch, the automatically electrically fold).
3. My understanding is that the 2008 Audi S5 had this feature, but it was removed due to costs.

My question is:
I want power folding side mirrors. I LOVE this feature in my 2003 Audi S4. How do I go about getting them in my soon to be ordered 2011 S5?

Can I just order 2008 S5 power mirror mechanisms, and have the dealer install it?

I suppose I should just go speak with the dealer, but I was thinking that someone might know of an aftermarket means of obtaining this functionality.

If you know nothing about this feature, or how to find it, or aftermarket products, please don’t answer.

I’m sure you’ve already browsed the web for parts and tuning aftermarket websites. It may be possible to “special order” the folding mirrors, since Audi still includes them on some models. “Why can’t they put them on your car?”

It’s a great idea to check with your local Audi dealer, as the 2008 S5′s external mirror housings will be the closest match to the 2011, however, there will still be wiring work from the housing to the “button” that folds them, as well as into the car’s electrical system.

I did a quick www.google.com search and only found A4 external housings, I know the “S” line has the off color housings, and I’m sure that with such a nice car you’d be apprehensive to have work done to it, but I agree, that feature is awesome.

Good luck, if you do find out, please post back here as an update, I’m sure there may be other people who are curious.

  1. Jon says

They will not be in the 2011 S5, and there is no retrofit documentation of any kind regarding installing 2008 mirror mechanisms. The usual answer to “unusual” questions like this is to just forget about it. If a car has the feature as an option, it can usually be installed (like navigation, for example), though it can be extremely expensive. If it’s not available even as an option, it’s generally not possible to install it afterwards. I’d be surprised if you could even find someone crazy enough to give it a try. Nobody in their right mind would risk damaging the electrical systems in the car.
